Growing Healthy Soils
We empower farmers to adopt agroecology and permaculture—using bio-inputs, soil care practices, and farmer-to-farmer learning that improve harvests while protecting the environment.
Conserving Seeds & Nature
From seed regeneration to biodiversity and watershed conservation, we safeguard the natural resources and species that sustain resilient food systems and healthy communities.
Partnerships for Change
Working with networks like PELUM Kenya, BIBA Kenya, and AFSA, we strengthen collaborations that scale innovations, promote food sovereignty, and create lasting impact.
About Bio Gardening Innovations (BIOGI)
Bio Gardening Innovations (BIOGI) is a registered Kenyan nonprofit organization located in Elnuni village, Vihiga County, Western Kenya. We are dedicated to advancing ecological and natural farming principles aimed at transforming food systems. Our focus is on smallholder farmer transformation and improving livelihoods through sustainable practices. Our mission is to facilitate a paradigm shift from industrial agriculture to a diverse agroecology system. By promoting sustainable food practices and resilient livelihoods, we strive to create a sustainable future for our communities, ensuring that farming practices are environmentally friendly and economically viable. Through our initiatives, we support the development of a robust and resilient food system that benefits both people and the planet.
Our Thematic Areas
At BIOGI, we focus on four key thematic areas that guide our work with farming communities. Each area is designed to build resilience, conserve biodiversity, and promote ecological food systems that improve livelihoods while protecting nature
Ecological Food Systems Transitions
Helping farmers adopt agroecology practices—through soil care, bio-inputs, and farmer-led research—for healthier, more resilient food systems.
Biodiversity Conservation & Watershed Management
Safeguarding seeds, species, and water resources to ensure ecological balance, climate adaptation, and sustainable farming.
Organizational Development & Sustainable Enterprises
Demonstrating permaculture-based farm designs at our Garden Centre, integrating crops, livestock, water harvesting, and renewable energy.
Linkages & Productive Collaborations
Building strong partnerships with networks and organizations to share knowledge, scale innovations, and influence supportive policies.
Our Impact
Trees Planted
BIOGI has planted over 29,000 trees to restore degraded landscapes, enhance biodiversity, and build community resilience to climate change.
Farmers Trained
We’ve empowered over 500 smallholder farmers with knowledge in organic agriculture, seed saving, and permaculture techniques.
Women & Youth Empowered
Through vocational training and agro-entrepreneurship programs, 300+ women and youth have gained skills to create sustainable livelihoods.
Students Supported
BIOGI’s school gardening and agroecology clubs have reached over 200 students, cultivating ecological awareness from an early age.
Thematic Areas
At BIOGI, we strengthen farming communities through a sustainable livelihoods approach. By nurturing natural resources, skills, finances, and social networks, we empower people to build resilient food systems, improve their livelihoods, and live in harmony with nature
We promote sustainable use of land, water, vegetation, and wildlife as the foundation of healthy and resilient food systems.
We strengthen family and community networks, encouraging cooperation and collective action for stronger livelihoods.
We support households in managing productive resources like livestock and other assets that can be exchanged for income and wellbeing.
We encourage savings, income generation, and access to financial resources to secure essential needs and improve quality of life.
We build farmers’ skills, knowledge, and capacity to meet basic needs, innovate, and transform their livelihoods for the future
